An electronic circuit which absorbs or delivers electric current free from the voltage across it is known as a current source. Current sources are generally of two types – independent current source and dependent current source.


An independent current source is that source which delivers constant current while a dependent current source is the one which delivers current that is proportional to some other current or voltage in the circuit. Current sources are uncommon in the circuit compared to voltage sources.


Voltage Sources:


Voltage sources are those sources which generate an exact amount of output voltage which remains unchanged regardless of the actual current. It is a two-terminal device known for maintaining fixed voltage.
A voltage source which can maintain high voltage independent of the output current or load resistance is termed as an ideal voltage source.

An independent voltage source is the one in which the voltage can be specified independently of any other present variable. However, if the voltage running across an ideal voltage source is determined by any other current or voltage in the circuit, then it is called controlled or dependent voltage source.


A mathematical model of the amplifier has been observed to include dependent voltage whose magnitude is known to be governed by fixed relation to an input signal.


The internal resistance capacity of an ideal voltage source is zero, it is capable of absorbing or delivering any amount of current. The current passing through the ideal voltage source is determined using the electric circuit.


When it is connected to an open circuit, the current is zero and thus so is power. Whereas when it is connected to a load resistance, the current passing through the source reaches infinity as the load resistance reaches zero. Therefore, an ideal voltage source is capable of supplying unlimited power.


Mainly, the sources of electrical energy are modelled as voltage sources. An ideal voltage source provides no energy when it is being loaded with an open circuit. However, when the load resistance approaches zero, it approaches infinite current and energy.


When compared to this, a current source provides constant current as long as it being connected to source terminals having a sufficiently low impedance.


An ideal current source generally provides no energy to the short circuit and is known to approach infinite voltage and energy as soon as the load resistance approaches infinity.
Current sources and voltage sources are said to be the duals of each other and any of these sources in their non-ideal form can be converted from one to the other.


Transistors:


A transistor is basically a semiconductor device which is used to switch or amplify electronic power or signals. It is created using the semiconductor material usually with the presence of at least three terminals for the connection to an external circuit.


Any current or voltage applied to the one pair of the transistor’s terminals is known to control the current passing through another pair of terminals.


A transistor can amplify a signal because the output or controlled power can be higher than the input or controlling power. It is known to have revolutionized the entire field of electronics and paved the way for calculators, computers, and radios among others. Mostly, transistors are made up of pure silicon, germanium, and other semiconductor materials.


Passive Components:


These types of electronic components can’t introduce net energy into the circuit neither they rely on a particular source of power except what is available to them from the AC circuit.


They cannot increase the power of the signal; however, they may increase current or voltage as it is done by a resonant circuit or transformer. These components include two-terminal components like resistors, transformers, inductors, and capacitors.

Resistors are basically a two-terminal passive electronic component which is used to either limit or oppose the current. It works on the basis of Ohm’s law which says that any voltage which is applied across the resistor’s terminals is directly proportional to the current flowing through it.
